Dal Bukhara, Rose Bay (Part deux)

February 22, 2013

Okay, we liked it so much last time we decided to give it another go – this time with our Guru in tow.  (Plus Tony had a load more discount vouchers)

Ambience
A lot busier this time round so more of a buzz in the air – we had the forethought to book a nice airy table close to the open shop front giving an alfresco feel to the proceedings. A nice waft of incense – we could have been in Mumbai itself…..

Service
As friendly, smiling and welcoming as the last time. Always efficient but the main course was a little slow in coming this time round – I suspect down to the place being pretty busy.

Food
Same deal-   mixed entrée any dish off the menu with rice and naan plus a Gulab Jamun for dessert. All good stuff especially the Nadia Commaneci .
Stand out dishes:  Andhra Fish curry (excellent) , Chilli Chicken, Paapdi Chaat and Brinjal Potato entree.

Wine
Some fantastic BYO this time round plus a nice bottle of 2005 Penfolds Kalimna from the wine list:
2008 Kendall-Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Zinfandel
2007 Barwang Hilltops Shiraz
2005 Penfolds Kalimna Shiraz

Value
What can you say?? at approx $22 per head simply unbeatable. It looks like the voucher marketing is working for this lot as the place was quite busy for a Wednesday night, but they can’t be making any money on this deal.

Over all score
8.0/10

All agree this place is an absolute Gem and highly recommended if you are over this way. There is a distinct possibility we could end up permanently embedded here. But move on we must – off to Zaaffran’s at darling harbour next month  so re-mortgaging the house in anticipation.
