Dal Bukhara, Rose Bay

January 17, 2013

First outing of the new year and Tony has got a Balti full of special meal deal coupons for Christmas so its off to the Eastern Suburbs and Dal Bukhara, Rose Bay.

Situated in a nice suburban set of shops on Old Southhead Road the restaurant has an open shopfront giving a light and airy alfresco feel on this breezy summer evening. Nicely busy but with a relaxed vibe with a few other couples and groups that seem to have dropped in on the way home from shopping or the beach.

Genuinely attentive, friendly and eager to please. The waitress clearly explained the special meal deal and we were not made to feel like second class customers as can be the case with some of these deals. Drinks and dishes served with discreet efficiency. Outstanding.

Under the deal we each got a mixed entree any dish off the menu with rice and naan plus a Gulab Jamun for dessert. For mains we chose the Goat Curry, Chicken Vindaloo, Bukhara Special Spicy Lamb Masala, Chilli Prawns, Dal Tadka and Malai Kofta
Stand out dishes:  Chicken Vindaloo, Lamb Masala  and Goat Curry.

A concise and sensible house wine list covering a nice range of wines. The deal entitled each couple  to a bottle of house white or red – an item we chose not to take as we had a couple of BYO – but we were offered soft drinks instead.
BYO Wine:
2009 Lake Breeze Bernoota Shiraz Cabernet (Lovely)
2009 Oliver’s Taranga Shiraz

At $30 per couple as part of the deal (plus a few incidentals) quite outstanding. Came in at $20 per head. The best value we have encountered to date.

Over all  score  8.5/10

We will definitely be going back to this one if only to introduce to our absent guru Ajit.
